Finally blogging again??

Ok, my intention was to blog more often than every two months! I know, I know....I'm a loser blogger! But I always have *good intentions*!

So I was noticing some of the pictures I posted last. They were of Myah in her "pre-walking" days. Ok, she's practically running now! How do children change so quickly? Not only is she walking but she's talking more & more. Actually, most of the time, she babbles. Hmmmm, is that from mommy?

Our Day at Silverwood

The other day we left Myah with my mom and headed to Silverwood theme park for the day. On the way there Clay said, "Now, I don't want you to be disappointed if I don't ride every ride....". I assured him I wouldn't bother him too much since several of our friends were there the same day.
When we arrived at Silverwood, I had the impression Clay was "stalling" because he wanted to get a burger, then walk around the entire park, then eat again, etc. Finally, I started riding some rides with our nieces and their friends. When Clay DID work up enough nerve to go on a roller coaster, it scared him so bad that he continued to "stall" most of the day.
Then, my pastor's wife, Stephanie, and I decided to leave Clay with the kids and go on a roller coaster together. As we were standing in line, we were talking about how awful it is when you laugh at inappropriate times (ie: someone is hurt and you should be compassionate but you laugh at them instead!!).
Right after we got off the ride, Clay said, "Ok, I'll go on the Ferris Wheel with you." That's right, my tough guy husband who does boxing and ju-jitsu will go on the "ferris wheel" (which is pretty much a kiddie ride in my book)! But I went with him. As we got on the ride, they started circling us up to the top. Clay started shaking because he was terrified! If I would move an inch, he would bark at me not to rock the seat. At this point, I could no longer control myself...I just started laughing at him. Then I remembered my conversation with Stephanie and I was thinking, "I should totally be supportive & understanding of him". But all I could do was laugh....uncontrollably. I was crying I was laughing so hard. And the more Clay freaked out the more I laughed.
The moral of the story? I don't know...."get tough & be brave" or "don't mock your husband". Both are pretty much fitting in this story.

One-Armed Parenting....

I've been One-Armed Parenting because at the beginning of June, I broke my arm. I was playing in our *first* church league softball game of the season when I slid into third base and felt a little *crunch* in my arm (I thought it was just an injury to muscles I wasn't used to using all year!). So, I kept playing but the next time up to bat, the pain was really intense. Clay made me go to the hospital (so he wouldn't have to endure more whining!) and I discovered that I broke my arm. Actually, I broke my "radial head", which made me sound like a used car part!
So I have a cast...in July....and not a dinky cast, either. No, it's a "long arm cast", which holds my arm at a permanent 90* angle. Go ahead, laugh. I can take it!!
Some interresting notes on this story are...
1. I have an 11 mo old....a VERY active 11 mo old!! I've accidentally bumped her in the head several times already. Poor kid. Both of us are a little weary of this situation.
2. Lord only knows what the Dr will discover when this cast comes off (maybe a Cheerio or a used wet wipe...who knows?)
3. I can't go to the store without people STARING at me like! Actually, they're probably staring at Myah - feeling sorry for her as I try to maneuver 10 things at once. Come to think of it, people at church give me the same look!!
3. It's summer. Not the kind of summer we were having at first...no, it's like 90's-100's here this week. GO FIGURE! I have the worst luck!!
I decided that One-armed parenting is not so....well, handy! Luckily, "this too shall pass!"

MOTHERS DAY

Ah, My first Mother's Day...sort of. I have to admit that Mother's Day is a tad bittersweet. While I'm totally in love with Myah, I also miss Shaya so much. I can't help wondering what it would be like to have two little girls right now?! I know it would be totally insane but I would still give anything to have Shaya here with us.
God, in His wisdom, knew that Myah would bring us so much joy after such a painful time in our lives. Myah is and absolute GIFT and I couldn't be more thrilled to have my first official Mother's Day with her. By the way, she played her first game of 'wiffle ball' with us today, which was a hoot!

Walrus....

Myah has been sick this week with a sneezy, runny nose. It really isn't great timing (is it ever?!) because we've been really busy. So today our niece Mikaela was riding in the back seat of our car with Myah. All the sudden, Myah let out a couple of huge sneezes. I asked Mikaela if Myah was alright. She said, "yes, but she looks like a walrus". Ok...get the picture yet? YUK! Let's just say that a Kleenex was definitely in order!

Home-made Horror Movies....

My mom never allowed me to watch horror movies as a kid. To this day, I don't have any desire to watch them. It's the suspense, the gore, etc. I just don't have the stomach for things like that. Nor do I think it would ever be a good idea to make your own home-made horror movie. Just keep that in mind as you read this....
On Sunday, I dressed Myah up in a really cute white and pink spring dress for church. She had matching tights and adorable little white shoes. She looked, if I do say so myself, like a little princess. As I was on the way home from church (which is about a 15 minute drive) and I was thinking about the service. Myah was in the back seat sitting silently, so I assumed she had fallen asleep. When I opened the car door to bring her in the house, she looked up at me and smiled really big (like she knew she'd done something wrong). I gasped and screamed a little because as she smiled, she had blood on her face & arms. She looked like she had a starring role in a horror movie! There was blood all over her pretty white dress, tights, shoes, blankie, her toy, her body...everything!! WHY, you ask? Because she had scratched a sore on her arm until it bled but never made a peep, whimper, NOTHING during the 15 minute drive! YIKES!!
After seeing what Myah would look like IN a horror movie, I made up my mind that she isn't EVER allowed to watch one!

Little Old Man....

Myah often makes a funny face. (see picture on left). I think she does it because she's getting teeth so she sucks in her bottom lip and chews on it for awhile. The result is an expression that looks much like a "little old man". The irony of her being compared to a "little old man" is that she's really quite mobile...we have to work hard to keep up with her! So if she's a little old man, what are we?

Bandaids....

This happened awhile ago but it's worth sharing....
A few weeks ago I was clipping Myah's fingernails. She was so squirmy that I missed and clipped a chunk out of the tip of her finger (Anyone who has ever done this to your child can relate with me when I say that this makes you feel like the worst parent in the world!). So I got the bleeding stoppped and put a bandaid securely over the wound.
Later, Clay came home and picked up Myah. I told him about the finger incident and how horrible I felt. Then he proceded to tell me about his day. As he was talking to me, he put Myah on the floor. She was on "all fours" and hacked (much like a cat with a hairball). As I rushed to see what was the matter with her, she threw up a bloody bandaid along with some milk. (If you're totally grossed out at this point, you can only imagine how disgusting this whole thing was in person!). Of course, she was fine but when the day was done, we felt like the worst parents in the world!

Nowadays....

My husband & I rented a car for a trip we were taking recently. I pulled up at my brother's house where my two neices and nephew were playing on the trampoline. They saw me in a new car and came RUNNING and SCREAMING towards me. I knew what they were thinking..."MoMo" (as they call me) got a new car! Before I had a chance to tell my 11 year old neice Mikaela that it wasn't really "my" car, she said, "MoMo, you look so 'Now-a-days'!!"
I don't know who was more heartbroken to discover that I wasn't quite so 'now-a-days'...her or me!

How This All Got Started.....

So I'm in Portland visiting my friend Mary. She shared this funny blog spot where her friend posts funny and interresting stories about his kids. I thought I would become a blogger (yikes!) for the sake of keeping track of all those crazy little stories that I want to remember years from now.
Of course, the primary character in my blog will probably be my adorable daughter, Myah. She is eight months old and getting very mobile, which means lots of excitement at our house!
The other main character (literally) is my husband Clay. We laugh a lot...at ourselves, each other and at our daughter.
I hope you enjoy this blog and share your funny stories with me as well!
